2025/2026 Events and Experiences To Be Confirmed
Trinidad to Clam Beach Run
When: Last Saturday in January
Where: Route starts near Trinidad, ends at Clam Beach
This annual “fun run” crosses creeks, trails, and even a river mouth. Part community challenge, part costume party, and part muddy rite of passage—it’s the only race where crossing waist-deep water is just part of the charm. Shuttle service and clam chowder await at the finish line.

Redwood Wildflower Season
When: March–June
Where: Lady Bird Johnson Grove, Rhododendron Trail, Trillium Falls
One of the most quietly spectacular things about spring in the redwoods: the flowers. Early bloomers like milkmaids and redwood violets peek out in shady groves as early as January, followed by carpets of trilliums and wild iris by April. Come May, rhododendrons bloom in full glory—showy bursts of pink among towering trunks. You’ll smell damp earth, hear the drip of fog off ferns, and wonder why everyone isn’t talking about this more.
Godwit Days Birding Festival
When: April
Where: Arcata Marsh and Humboldt Bay
One of the most anticipated spring events on the North Coast, this four-day birding bonanza celebrates the annual spring migration with expert-led field trips, fascinating lectures, and hands-on workshops. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or just curious, this all-ages festival is packed with opportunities to spot Tufted Puffins, California Condors, Marbled Murrelets, and more. Highlights include a festive banquet, silent auction, and guided walks through some of the best wetlands and coastal habitats in the region.

Trinidad Art Nights
When: Last Saturday of the month, April–September, 5:30–8:30 PM
Where: Downtown Trinidad
Now in its 14th season, Trinidad Art Night is a much-loved tradition that turns this quiet coastal village into a festive, town-wide art walk. Family-friendly and free, this monthly event features local art, music, and performance across town—from shops and cafes to the Town Hall and Trinidad Museum. Past highlights include fire dancing at Saunders Park, skate ramps at the school, live bands tucked into alleys, and art displayed in garages and unexpected places. It’s creative, a great place for community to gather.
Arcata Oyster Bay Festival
When: Mid-June (Fathers Day weekend)
Where: Arcata Plaza
Since 1990, the Arcata Bay Oyster Festival has celebrated Humboldt’s world-class oyster industry, local flavor, and community spirit. What began as a small get-together is now a massive party with over 10,000 attendees. Enjoy oysters every way imaginable—grilled, raw, fried—plus beer, wine, cider, and inventive local pairings. Don’t miss the Shuck & Swallow contest, the Oyster Calling competition, or the two music stages with rotating bands. The event’s commitment to sustainability and zero waste reflects the values of the community it celebrates.

Taste of Trinidad
When: Late June
Where: Saunder’s Park, Trinidad
Equal parts neighborhood block party and gourmet picnic, this casual festival brings together the best of local food and friends. One ticket gets you a tasting pass to a rotating lineup of area restaurants, food trucks, and homegrown chefs—think smoked salmon sliders, foraged mushroom tacos, berry cobblers, and more. Expect lawn games, a kids’ zone, music under the redwoods, and lots of chatting with new and old friends. Bring a chair, a picnic blanket, and your appetite.
Humboldt Crabs Baseball
When: June–August
Where: Arcata Ballpark
Founded in 1945, the Humboldt Crabs are the oldest continuously operating wood-bat collegiate baseball team in the U.S. And if you’ve never been to a Crabs game, you’re missing out. This is summer nostalgia at its finest: affordable tickets, crowd chants, cheeky announcers, and the best garlic fries in town. Families, college kids, and old-timers gather to cheer, heckle (lovingly), and pass a good time under the Arcata sun.

Westhaven Blackberry Festival
When: Last Sunday of July
Where: Westhaven Volunteer Fire Department
This down-home, volunteer-run fundraiser packs a ton of heart—and flavor. Arrive early to snag one of the famous homemade pies or jars of jam made by the legendary Westhaven Ladies’ Club. Sip a mimosa, grab a BBQ lunch cooked by firefighters, browse dozens of local vendors, and dance to live music. Support local artisans, pick up WVFD merch, and enjoy the summer sun with your community. All proceeds benefit the fire department. Pure summer goodness.
Trinidad Bay Art & Music Festival (TBAM)
When: August
Where: Trinidad Town Hall and surrounding venues
This annual cultural highlight brings together classical music, jazz, and visual arts in an intimate coastal setting. Featuring renowned musicians and emerging talent, TBAM concerts take place in small venues where every seat feels like front row. Between sets, explore curated art shows, local galleries, and beach walks.

Birding on the Madaket
When: August & September (TBD annually)
Where: Humboldt Bay, Eureka
Hop aboard the historic Madaket—the oldest operating passenger vessel in the U.S.—for a guided birding cruise around Humboldt Bay. This mellow boat trip pairs local brews and snacks with expert narration from local ornithologists. Glide past tidal flats and oyster farms as you scan for egrets, godwits, and peregrine falcons. A perfect low-key way to learn about the ecosystem, spot rare birds, and relax into Humboldt pace.
Fall Pelagic Tour
When: September/October (TBD annually)
Where: Launch from Humboldt Bay, offshore to Eel River Canyon
Serious birders and ocean lovers, this one’s for you. This deep-sea expedition heads 15–20 miles offshore to the pelagic zone where you’ll search for albatross, shearwaters, auklets, and storm-petrels—not to mention whales and dolphins. Guided by experts and weather-dependent, it’s one of the rare ways to see true offshore wildlife. Seas can be choppy, so bring motion sickness precautions and an adventurous spirit.

North Country Fair
When: September
Where: Arcata Plaza
This two-day street fair is a kaleidoscope of Humboldt’s eccentric soul. Think parades (including the famous All Species Parade), drumming circles, zero-waste vendors, live performances, and colorful handmade everything. It’s where creative locals let loose and welcome the change of seasons with art, expression, and a whole lot of community.
Redwood Coast Music Festival
When: October 2–5, 2025 (2026 dates TBD)
Where: Eureka, CA
Four days of vintage jazz, swing, blues, and soul fill the streets and venues of Old Town Eureka. National acts mix with local legends for concerts, partner dances, and jam sessions from morning until well after last call. It’s perfect for music lovers looking to tap their toes and soak in a lively, historic town vibe.

Blessing of the Fleet
When: Thanksgiving Morning
Where: Memorial Lighthouse Overlook, Trinidad
A solemn and beautiful local tradition where residents gather to honor those lost at sea and wish safety for the current fleet for the season ahead. A beautiful blessing and prayers is offered from local Yurok and Tsurai elders. Bring something warm to sip, and join in this reflective, heartfelt start to the holiday season.
Winter Whale Watching
When: December through April
Where: Trinidad Head Trail, Scenic Drive pullouts, Sue Meg State Park
Gray whales migrate along the coast and can be seen spouting from the shore. Bring binoculars and time your trip with a clear day for best views. Trinidad Head Trail offers the most rewarding views (and the best odds), but even a drive along Scenic Drive can deliver sightings if you’re lucky.
