Hey again—if you’re someone who feels most alive under tall trees and soft mist, this first part of our Outdoor Immersions series is just for you. Trinidad’s forests don’t just offer hikes. They offer soul-level recalibration.
Hidden Trails & Mossy Walks
Some days you just need to walk until your shoulders drop. These are our go-to forest bathing spots—the places you can get your feet muddy and your spirit rinsed clean.
- Little River Trail: Soft, quiet, and full of surprises. If it’s been raining, look for mushrooms tucked into the roots and along mossy logs.
- Trillium Falls Trail: A local favorite. Short enough for an easy loop, but with redwoods that’ll make you stop and look up more than once.
- Lady Bird Johnson Grove: Misty, still, and timeless. The high elevation keeps it cooler and foggy, even when it’s sunny at the beach.
Walk slow. Breathe deep. Smell the earth.
Beyond Fern Canyon: Quiet Hikes You’ve Probably Missed
Yes, Fern Canyon is beautiful—but it’s also everyone’s favorite. Here’s where we go when we want that same awe, minus the crowd:
- Brown Creek Trail (Prairie Creek Redwoods): Deep, ferny, and often empty. Like walking through a storybook.
- Strawberry Rock Trail: The view at the top? Worth every step.
- Ah Pah Trail: Short, sweet, and educational. Great for kids or folks new to the redwoods.
Bring snacks. Nothing makes a redwood grove feel more like church than a good sandwich under a thousand-year-old tree.
Night Walks & Starlit Trails: The Magic After Dark
Don’t pack it in when the sun sets—some of the most memorable nature moments here happen under moonlight.
- Redwood Moon Hikes: On full moon nights, head to Prairie Creek or Lady Bird Johnson Grove. The silver light filtering through the trees is something you never forget.
- Trinidad Head at Dusk: Bring a headlamp just in case, but let your eyes adjust—watch the sky shift from lavender to deep navy. Sometimes the fog glows.
- Campfire Circles: Whether it’s a driftwood bonfire on Old Home Beach or a fire pit back at camp, nothing beats ending the day with stars overhead and the surf close by.
Look for: bats darting through trees, night herons on the prowl, and that deep, healing hush that only comes at night in the woods.
Coming up next: Part 2 – Coast & Tide: Wild Waters, Whale Spouts & Storm Watching.
See you under the trees,
